Fraser Papers Inc. (TSX: FPS) today reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2006. Operating results improved to breakeven on an EBITDA basis with higher selling prices and lower costs in the Company's pulp and paper operations offset by losses in its lumber mills. After interest, depreciation, amortization and a tax recovery, the Company reported a loss of $6 million or $0.21 per share compared to a loss of $5 million or $0.16 per share in the third quarter of 2005.

Canfor Corporation (TSX: CFP) today reported a net loss of $51.6 million for the third quarter, or $0.36 per share. Net income for the year to date was $6.5 million, or $0.05 per share.
Operating income before amortization (EBITDA) was $3.3 million in the third quarter, compared to EBITDA of $26.9 million in the previous quarter and EBITDA of $31.3 million in the same quarter last year. The decline in profitability over the comparable periods was mainly as a result of lower prices for lumber and OSB. US dollar SPF lumber prices averaged 12% lower than in the second quarter and 15% lower than the same period last year, while OSB prices declined by 24% and 38% respectively. HIGHLIGHTS:
- Total revenues in the quarter and the nine month period increased by 4.8% compared to the same periods last year.
- 2006 net earnings increased to $7.9 million in the quarter and $40.5 million in the nine months compared to $5.6 million and $15.8 million in the same periods last year.
